Winter Storm Warnings & Advisories for widespread snow across CNY tonight

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Widespread snow develops across CNY this evening through tonight with several inches of accumulation by sunrise on Sunday. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories go into effect at 7pm today through 7am Sunday.

The weather for today looks quiet, cloudy, and chilly. Light winds but temperatures will only be in the 20s for most of the day. Any morning lake effect flurries gradually taper off, then this batch of widespread snow doesn’t arrive until 6-7pm.

Here’s our weather system setup this Saturday morning. A large area of low pressure is on the way to CNY from the west, the southern side of this system is mostly rain, a wintry mix at the center, but only snow on the northern side.

CNY will get the northern half of this system with only snowfall accumulation. However, there will be some ice accumulation for Pennsylvania. A hefty amount of snow is expected for much of the Northeast and New England states.

Here’s how much snowfall is expected for CNY from 7pm today through 7am Sunday. Around 3-6 inches for Syracuse, the Finger Lakes, the shoreline of Lake Ontario and most of the North Country. Up to 6-9 inches for areas east and south of Onondaga County.
