We’re in! STL Blues fans celebrate roller coaster ride to playoffs

ST. LOUIS – Hours before Tuesday night’s game at the Enterprise Center in downtown St. Louis, fans lined up for a game that would give their team a ticket to the playoffs.

The St. Louis Blues were able to control their destiny with a regulation victory over the Utah Hockey Club.

“I’m so nervous as a fan,” said Michael Grey as he arrived for the team’s last regular season game.

Miranda Brinkmann summed up what was at stake. “This is huge,” she said. “The 82nd game and possibly clinch a playoff spot for the 46th time in franchise history.”

St. Louis Blues fan Kristin Noory said, “We’ve got to bring home a win so yeah, we’re a little nervous.”

St. Louis Blues fans are accustomed to the feel of being on a roller coaster.

“There’s been a lot of ups and downs,” said Brian Harrison, a longtime St. Louis Blues fan. “I’ve been through 30-plus years of them.”

“There have been a lot of ups and downs but 2019 cured all that,” said Tim Anderson, a Granite City resident attending Tuesday night’s game with his family.

The St. Louis Blues franchise began with three trips to the Stanley Cup finals in the 1960s but didn’t return to the finals until 2019, when they defeated the Boston Bruins to bring the Stanley Cup championship trophy to St. Louis for the first time.

“Reminiscing about those memories, a lot of good feelings are coming back around this time,” said Cohen Viciana, a St. Louis Blues fan attending Tuesday night’s game.

Blues fan Mike Raisch said the 2025 team displayed similarities to the 2019 championship team. “They’re gritty,” he said. “They’re tough, they hit, and they check.”

Molly Conrad attended her first St. Louis Blues game Tuesday and was excited to see that toughness on display.

“I want to see some hockey,” she said.

“Nothing is better than playoff hockey in St. Louis,” said Bob Moore, a longtime St. Louis Blues fan. “It’s the second season.”

Blues fan Kristina Harrison said, “It’s a roller coaster but there’s no better sports town, especially hockey town, than St. Louis.”
