Watch: Luigi Mangione Breaks Silence After Arrest in Healthcare CEO Shooting
Jillian Lauren‘s brush with the law ended with gunfire, according to police.
The true crime author, who has been married to Weezer bassist Scott Shriner since 2005, was struck in an “officer-involved shooting” on April 8, per the Los Angeles Police Department.
The incident happened after 3:25 p.m., when California Highway Patrol requested police backup in locating three hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential area of the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Upon securing the premise, officers noticed Jillian—who police identified by her legal name Jillian Shriner—in a neighboring yard armed with a handgun, authorities said in an April 9 press release.
“The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun multiple times; however, she refused,” police said. “Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.”
The LAPD said Jillian was hit by gunfire and went inside the house. The 51-year-old was later transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, per authorities.
“It was later determined that Shriner was uninvolved in the hit-and-run and lived at the residence where she was observed,” police said. “She was ultimately absentee booked for attempted murder.”

E! News has reached out to reps for Jillian and Scott for comment but has not heard back.
The shooting comes one month after Jillian—who shares sons Tariku, 17, and Jovanni, 12, with Scott—disclosed that she underwent a “complicated operation.”
“Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all,” she wrote on Instagram March 3, sharing a photo of herself on a hospital bed. “I am always so grateful for every second of the compassionate, and excellent medical care I receive in my life. Thank you to all the remarkable health care workers, who take our lives in your hands. And let’s all breathe.”
