Many have taken to X to express their shock over the arson that happened at Governor Josh Shapiro’s mansion around 2 a.m. — with Lt. Governor Austin Davis saying that violence like this “is never acceptable.”
Newly elected Attorney General, Dave Sunday, also took to the social media platform to condemn “this senseless act of violence.”
Senator Dave McCormick, echoing those sentiments, stating that PA and America as a whole has no room “for lawlessness, violence, and hatred.”
Congressman Dan Meuser sent a statement to CBS 21, expressing gratitude that the governor and his family are safe:
I’m thankful that Governor Shapiro and his family are safe following last night’s terrible incident. No elected official or their loved ones—regardless of party—should ever have their safety threatened for serving the public. We live in a country where we resolve our differences through debate, elections, and the rule of law—not through fear, intimidation, or violence.
What happened last night was not just an attack on one family—it was an attack on the values we all share as Americans. And it is particularly disgraceful that this occurred on Passover—a sacred time of faith, freedom, and reflection.
I’m grateful to the Pennsylvania State Police, Capitol Police, and the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire for their swift response and for protecting the Governor’s family. We owe them our thanks and our full support.
We must all stand united—Republicans and Democrats alike—in condemning these acts and making clear they will never be tolerated in our Commonwealth or our country. I look forward to these dangerous criminals being apprehended, prosecuted, and jailed to the fullest extent of the law.
A statement from former Pennsylvania Governor, Mark Schweiker, was also sent to the newsroom:
This morning’s arson attack at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence, which threatened the lives of Gov. Shapiro and his family, is a despicable act of cowardice. Kathy and I hope all Pennsylvanians will join us in keeping Josh, Lori and their family in their prayers. We thank the firefighters who bravely responded to the fire, as well as the Pennsylvania State Police and all law enforcement for their ongoing efforts to bring the coward who attacked the People’s House to justice.
At this time, the investigation into the arson is ongoing as PSP is offering a $10K reward for any information that can lead to an arrest.
A motive for the fire has not been released at this time.
