NEWS NINE AT SIX. AND THIS WILDFIRE, WHICH IS SEEING THOSE SANTA ANA WINDS, THOSE STRONG WINDS, EVEN 100 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS REPORTED LAST NIGHT. ARE THOSE EXPECTED TO CALM DOWN ANY TIME SOON? YEAH, WE ARE ACTUALLY HEARING THAT THEY’RE SLOWLY COMING DOWN. BUT THE PROBLEM IS THEY CONTINUOUSLY HAVE THESE GUSTS. AND ON TOP OF IT, THERE’S BEEN LITTLE TO NO RAIN SINCE MAY. ACROSS MUCH OF THESE AREAS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THE AIR IS VERY DRY, SO IT’S ALL JUST THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR THESE STORMS AND FOR THE STRONG WINDS, I SHOULD SAY. SO THIS IS THE SETUP HERE. AND WHAT WE KNOW THAT SANTA ANA WINDS. THE JET STREAM IS DIPPING RIGHT DOWN TO THE EAST OF THIS AREA OF LOS ANGELES, AND THAT’S ALLOWING SINKING AIR TO DRIVE STRONG WINDS RIGHT DOWN THROUGH THE CANYONS IN THE PASSES HERE, DOWN THE SLOPES OF THOSE HIGHER TERRAIN AREAS. AND SO YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE FIRES ARE BURNING THROUGH LOS ANGELES AND EVEN CLOSER TO SANTA BARBARA. AND THOSE WINDS HAVE BEEN VERY STRONG IN THOSE PASSES. IN PARTICULAR, YOU CAN SEE, SAY, THE OXNARD LOCATION THERE UP TO 35 MILE PER HOUR WIND GUSTS AND EVEN LONG BEACH OVER 30MPH. THANKFULLY, OVERNIGHT WE ARE EXPECTING THE WINDS TO COME DOWN SOME, BUT STILL A LOT OF ISSUES IN THAT AREA AND IT COUL
