St. Louis County declares state of emergency

CLAYTON, Mo. (First Alert 4) – St. Louis County has declared a state of emergency in the wake of destructive storms that ripped through the area Friday evening.

The declaration will remain in force until county officials deem the emergency no longer exists. It gives county officials emergency powers to expend funds or take action to preserve safety.

County Executive Sam Page is in communication with Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe and is coordinating resources in response to the storm damage, according to a news release.

On Friday, the county saw multiple fires as 60-70 mph winds struck the area. The winds were followed by a powerful tornado-producing storm that caused building collapses and other damage.
