QUEENS, N.Y. – Winners of five straight games, the St. John’s baseball team will head to Rock Hill, S.C., where it will face Winthrop in a three-game series, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. at The Winthrop Ballpark.
Saturday’s contest is slated for a 2 p.m. start while Sunday’s game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday’s meetings will be streamed on ESPN+ and Sunday’s contest will be an audio-only broadcast. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm (8-11) have now won five straight games and seven of its last eight games, most recently taking down Manhattan, 11-7, on Tuesday at Jack Kaiser Stadium and Fairfield, 7-5, on Wednesday in Connecticut.
Sean Britt and Jace Jeremiah led the way for the Red Storm against the Jaspers, tallying three hits apiece on Tuesday. Britt registered a trio of scores and RBIs while Jeremiah batted in two runs and scored one himself. Jon LeGrande had himself a day, totaling five RBIs on a double and two sacrifice flies with a stolen bag.
Louis Marinaro and Chad Falcon were dominant out of the bullpen for the Johnnies against Manhattan. Marinaro picked up his first win of the season, allowing no runs or hits and tying his career-high with five strikeouts across 2.2 innings of work. Falcon only gave up one hit and did not let up a run, matching his career-high of three punchouts and earning a save after battling across 3.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Against Fairfield on Wednesday, St. John’s used a four-run rally with two outs in the eighth inning to propel itself past the Stags in Connecticut. With the bases loaded, Adam Agresti smacked a go-ahead two-run double to give the Johnnies their first lead of the day, which they would never relinquish.
Jackson Tucker will look to extend his team-best 14-game hitting and on-base streak against Winthrop this weekend. The speedy outfielder has been dangerous on the base paths this season, leading the team with 13 stolen bases, the 27th most in NCAA Division I.
Tyler Longoria was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, after shining out of the bullpen in the Johnnies’ 16-inning 7-5 win against Maine. In just the third appearance of his collegiate career, the freshman went for a season-high four innings, giving up only one hit and tossing a season-best six punchouts, en route to his first career win.
St. John’s and Winthrop are set to meet for the seventh time in program history when they battle on Friday night. The Red Storm leads the series 5-0-1 and holds a 3-0 all-time mark in South Carolina against the Eagles.
Last season, the Johnnies went 2-0-1 against Winthrop, taking the first game 6-0, before splitting their doubleheader the next day (W 18-4, T 6-6). Anthony Brienza was tabbed to the BIG EAST Honor Roll following the series, tallying three triples in the team’s doubleheader.
Winthrop will welcome the Johnnies to South Carolina with a 12-10 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the Big South. The Eagles have won three straight games, most recently taking two of three against Presbyterian before downing the College of Charleston, 9-3, on Wednesday night. Winthrop boasts a potent offense that is led by Nate Chronis, who paces the team with a .400 batting average on 22 hits alongside 17 runs and 20 RBIs. Ethan Wilson has flashed his power in 2025, tallying five homers, eight doubles, 26 RBIs and four stolen bases. Ben Rehkow has dominated out of the bullpen this season, leading the team with a 0.96 ERA across seven appearances and 9.1 innings of work. The starting pitcher duo of Brayden Gilley and Harrison Wilson pace the Eagles with 18 and 17 strikeouts, respectively.
Following this weekend’s series, the Red Storm will finish up its road swing by taking on Wagner on Tuesday, March 25. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Staten Island, N.Y.
