COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball’s star MiLaysia Fulwiley plans to enter the transfer portal, sources told The Greenville News on Friday.
The sources requested anonymity because no public announcement has been made.
The transfer portal opened March 25 and closes April 22, however a player in the portal can still withdraw and return to the team after the closing date.
The 5-foot-10 guard played two years for coach Dawn Staley. South Carolina won the national championship when she was a freshman before finishing as a runner up to UConn this season.
Fulwiley averaged 11.7 points per game this season which was second on the team.

There was some concern this would happen after guard Ta’Niya Latson committed to South Carolina on Tuesday, assuming either Fulwiley or sophomore Tessa Johnson’s minutes would be cut into with a new guard in the lineup.
Raven Johnson has also announced she will return and will force Staley to go with a three-guard lineup or stick with two and go with two forwards and a center.

Fulwiley averaged 18.9 minutes off the bench this season, improving from 18.4 average as a freshman. She shot 42.6% from the field and 25.8% from the 3-point line. She scored 23 points in the Sweet 16 win against Maryland on March 28, which was the third time this season she scored 22 or more. Fulwiley had a season-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting on Feb. 23 against Vanderbilt.
When Fulwiley chose South Carolina, she became the new hometown hero, just like A’ja Wilson was, as both grew up in Columbia. Fulwiley went to Keenan High School, just under 10 miles from Colonial Life Arena.
She was the first freshman in program history to win SEC Tournament MVP in 2024, after scoring 24 points in the SEC tournament championship against LSU on March 10, 2024.
Shortly after, she became the first college athlete to sign with Steph Curry’s brand, Curry Brand and this season, she debuted two different custom shoes with the company.
