Social media set ablaze by Tre Holloman’s transfer portal news

I don’t know what’s more shocking to me right now: the fact that Jase Richardson hasn’t declared that he’s going pro yet or the fact that Tre Holloman is leaving the program.

That’s right, this is not a joke: Tre is in the transfer portal.

Holloman had a strong junior season in which he played the role of hero numerous times, including games against North Carolina and Michigan en route to a Big Ten title and an Elite Eight run.

I don’t think Holloman was checked out in the NCAA Tournament like some fans are claiming, but this is odd timing considering he did just play his final Michigan State game two days ago and he was in tears in the locker room when the Spartans lost to Auburn. I think he’s making a smart decision for himself, but I’m hoping he reconsiders.

Izzo, too, had to be shocked at this news because Holloman felt like the ultimate Spartan Dawg and when he defended the Michigan State logo-kissing tradition, it felt like his would be special next year.

We were all wrong.

Social media obviously got set ablaze by the news and now we’ll be looking to replace the junior guard who gave everything he had to this school for three years. Here are some of the top reactions to the Holloman news on social media:

Holloman entering the portal means one of two things1) Thinks Jase is coming back, doesn’t want to spend last year of eligibility coming off the bench

2) I actually don’t fucking know that’s the only reason

Gehrig leaving was expected, I hope nothing but good for him.Holloman leaving is crazy. He was in tears about the team two days ago. Huge loss.

The portal is ruining college basketball. It’s getting bad.

Please tell me this Tre Holloman news is a big April Fools joke coordinated by all college basketball news outlets and maybe even Tre to scare Michigan State fans specifically

Say what you want about Holloman, but him shopping for deals in the middle of the season is unbelievably lame, especially after everything that Izzo did for him

Tre Holloman ends his career at MSU with a 5-1 record against Michigan

I want absolutely no Tre Holloman slander on my timeline

This one undoubtedly hurts. Holloman gave his all to the program and the school and he became a beloved figure on campus. If he does ultimately decide to leave, no one should be hating on the kid for wanting an NIL deal or more of a role, but if he comes back, he might go down as one of the biggest legends in recent memory.

Let’s hope the latter comes to fruition.
