Rey Mysterio has been at odds with his son on WWE TV, but he’d still feel a sense of pride if Dominik Mysterio becomes Intercontinental Champion at WrestleMania.
WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with Rey Mysterio on the red carpet at WWE and Medium Rare’s WrestleMania After Dark party. There, Mysterio was asked what it would mean to see his son win the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania. Rey is a two-time champion himself, and he said he’d be honored to see his son’s name join that list.

“Oh my God! That title is very historic. Some of the biggest legends of this industry have held that title prior to holding on a world title,” Rey Mysterio explained. “As a father, that would give me the biggest sense of pride to be able to see him as IC Champion. You have no idea.”
Rey also said he’d love to take the title from Dominik if he’s successful this weekend. However, he’s not sure Dominik would want the match, considering Rey is unbeaten in singles action against his son.
“As a competitor, I would be so happy because I would love to do nothing more than to step in and challenge him and see if he really has what it takes to beat his dad. And that would be an incredible challenge for me. At the end of the day, you know, if he does become champion and he does, he’ll probably give me the run around. He won’t want to challenge me. Or he won’t want to put the title on the line against me.

“But overall, I wish him the best of luck. I think he’s an incredible competitor, I think he has what it takes. And if he pulls some of those Eddie ‘fiascoes’ that he tends to do, I think he might become IC Champion. But best of luck to him.”
Dominik, Penta and Finn Balor will challenge Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 41. Rey is also in action in Las Vegas, as he’ll face off with El Grande Americano.
