Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand has made it abundantly clear that he wants to remain with the Original Six club. General manager Don Sweeney has also expressed the desire to get No. 63’s next contract done. However, that isn’t the only option Sweeney is considering.
According to The Athletic’s Chris Johnston, the Bruins are still open to trading Marchand before the deadline passes.
“While the Bruins continue to go back and forth with Brad Marchand on a possible contract extension, word is they’re still open to potentially trading their captain,” Johnston reported on X. “Teams calling with interest aren’t being told “no” right now.”
This certainly makes things much more interesting with the deadline being one day away. It is now time for them to make a decision on their superstar forward. If Marchand does not have a contract extension by March 7, it could very well lead to him being dealt. The Bruins may find him to be too valuable an asset for them to potentially lose for nothing next off-season in free agency.
It will be interesting to see what the Bruins end up doing with Marchand from here. If they end up dealing their captain, it would be a franchise-altering move, and the official start of a new era.
