It’s a Cincinnati holiday.The Cincinnati Reds open the 2025 season at home against the San Francisco Giants. From the parade to the ceremonial first pitch and everything in between, here’s what you need know about Cincinnati’s hometown holiday. LET’S TALK BASEBALLThe Reds will enter the 2025 season with a new leader in two-time World Series champion manager Terry Francona.Francona takes over a Reds team that is looking to bounce back from a 77-85 season last year.In addition to Francona, several new faces have joined the Reds this offseason, including starting pitcher Brady Singer, infielder Gavin Lux, catcher Jose Trevino and outfielder Austin Hays.Second baseman Jonathan India and relief pitcher Fernando Cruz were among the players who were traded out of Cincinnati since the 2024 season ended.As was the case last season, all eyes are on shortstop Elly De La Cruz and starting pitcher Hunter Greene, who made their first All-Star Game appearances last season.De La Cruz, 23, stole 67 bases and hit 25 home runs in his first full MLB season last year, while Greene placed eighth in National League Cy Young voting.Outside of De La Cruz and Greene, the return of second baseman Matt McLain is being closely watched, with the former first rounder returning to the diamond after missing all last season with a shoulder injury.FINDLAY MARKET OPENING DAY PARADEThe 2025 Findlay Market Opening Day Parade kicks off at noon.Former Reds third baseman Chris Sabo, known as “Spuds” will be this year’s Opening Day parade grand marshal.Sabo was the 1988 National League Rookie of the Year and a 1990 World Series Champion.The Reds cult legend was also known for making goggles cool, known for his big goggle Rec Specs.”Chris Sabo was a fan favorite and fans endeared themselves to him because he was all about hard work and determination,” Rick Walls Executive Director of the Reds Hall of Fame said.During the announcement, Neil Luken, Findlay Market Opening Day Parade Chairperson and Mo Egger, Findlay Market Opening Day Parade Spokesperson and iHeartMedia Sports-talk Radio Host also spent time talking about last year’s grand marshal, Jim Scott. Scott, who died after a battle with ALS, was honored during last year’s parade as fans shared signs in his honor.”Jim Scott was Cincinnati,” Reds President Phil Castellini said, remembering last year’s grand marshal and his impact on the city.Opening Day leaders also announced this year’s parade will also feature an Olympic float with current and former Cincinnati Olympians, including Carson Foster, Annette Echikunwoke and Mason Parris.There will also be a Bengals alumni float with Ken Anderson, David Fulcher. Anthony Munoz will also be in the parade on his own float for his foundation. HOW TO WATCHThe Reds and Giants will square off at 4:10 p.m. ET.The game will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Ohio, which was formerly known as Bally Sports Ohio, the TV home of the Reds since 2021.The Reds announced that the same broadcast crew of years past will return to the booth in 2025.
