PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Punta Gorda Police is investigating an altercation between two boaters in their area that has garnered significant attention on social media.

Police say the incident happened on Tuesday under the Barron Collier Bridge in Punta Gorda.

Several viewers sent WEAR News the video believing the incident took place in Northwest Florida, but it actually happened in the city located in Charlotte County in Southwest Florida.

Punta Gorda Police say a report has been filed with their department. The incident involving two adult boaters is currently under investigation by police and FWC.

The video currently has 23K comments, 18K shares and nearly 30K reactions on Facebook.

“The event has garnered significant attention on social media, and we are receiving numerous calls to dispatch requesting that the department take action,” Punta Gorda Police said Thursday morning. “Please do not call to report this situation; it is currently being investigated by both the Punta Gorda Police and FWC. Additional calls to our dispatch could slow our response to situations that require immediate attention.”
