Pop icon Selena Gomez breaks down over Trump’s immigration crackdown: ‘My people are getting attacked’

Pop icon Selena Gomez Monday posted a video, which she later deleted, reacting to the latest crackdown on illegal immigrants by the Trump administration in the US. Since being sworn in as the 47th US President, Trump announced a series of immigration-related executive orders, especially those on the deportation of illegal immigrants, aimed at sealing the US-Mexico border.

In the now-deleted video posted on Instagram, the Mexican-American singer-actor was seen crying inconsolably and expressing her concern about the reformed immigration laws that would seemingly affect a large number of Mexicans. “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” she said in the video.

The Only Murders in the Building actor deleted the video after she was trolled over her comments. In another Instagram story, she wrote, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”

However, the deleted video was widely circulated across all social media platforms, sparking reactions.

Ever since Trump assumed office, over 500 illegal immigrants have been arrested and hundreds in a massive deportation operation in the country’s history. A key element of Trump’s immigration strategy is the removal of undocumented migrants from the US, with a commitment to “mass deportations.” In support of this, the Department of Defense has announced it will provide military aircraft to assist in deporting over 5,000 individuals currently held by Border Patrol in San Diego and El Paso, Texas, the BBC News reported.
