Oklahoma City — Despite a hard fight, the short-handed Detroit Pistons dropped their second consecutive game in a 119-103 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.
The closest the Pistons came in the fourth quarter was at the 7:45 mark, when Ausar Thompson connected on a two-handed dunk, which cut Oklahoma City’s double-digit lead to seven (102-95). A few possessions later, Paul Reed connected on an And-1 basket to bring Detroit within four points (102-98).
Lu Dort scored 11 points and hit a crucial 3-point field goal, providing the Thunder with some breathing room. However, the Pistons quickly responded by scoring on back-to-back possessions, narrowing the gap to just four points at 107-103 with 3:30 remaining in the final period. To halt Detroit’s momentum, Williams made a mid-range jumper right after the timeout.
Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Pistons with 23 points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-best 33 points.
