After a disappointing outcome against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, the Colorado Avalanche wrap up against this current homestand tonight against the Calgary Flames. This will be the third and final regular-season matchup between these two teams, with Colorado having won both of the previous matchups.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avs come into this game coming off of a matinee game against the St. Louis Blues, in which they unfortunately lost by a final score of 2-1. That game was a frustrating one to say the least, as Colorado was unable to solve Jordan Binnington before time expired.
While Colorado still has a pretty decent grasp on the third place spot in the Central Division right now, the Blues and Minnesota Wild are both only six points back of the Avs. Becasuse of this, getting two points tonight all of a sudden seems far more important than it did previously.
There were a couple lineup changes reported after morning skate. Erik Johnson and Jimmy Vesey will return tonight but Joel Kiviranta will not despite participating in the session.
Projected Lineup
Artturi Lehkonen – Nathan MacKinnon – Jonathan DrouinValeri Nichushkin – Brock Nelson – Martin NecasJimmy Vesey – Charlie Coyle – Ross Colton
Parker Kelly – Jack Drury – Logan O’Connor
Devon Toews – Cale MakarRyan Lindgren – Sam Malinski
Samuel Girard – Erik Johnson
Scott Wedgewood
Calgary Flames
The Flames have recently slipped out of the wild card race in the Western Conference, as they are now seven points behind both the Blues and the Wild. That’s not to say they can’t still make it into the playoffs, as it’s technically still possible until they’re officially eliminated, but their chances are dwindling by the day as we head towards the end of the regular season. Every point matters throughout the entierty of the regular season, but every point really matters for Calgary at this point.
Projected Lineup
Yegor Sharangovich – Nazem Kadri – Martin PospisilJonathan Huberdeau – Morgan Frost – Matt CoronatoJoel Farabee – Mikael Backlund – Blake Coleman
Ryan Lomberg – Kevin Rooney – Adam Klapka
Joel Hanley – Mackenzie WeegarKevin Bahl – Rasmus Andersson
Jake Bean – Brayden Pachal
Goaltenders
For tonight, Scott Wedgewood is likely to get the start, and Dustin Wolf is likely to get the start across the ice from him. Mackenzie Blackwood had a really strong performance against the Blues, despite the loss, and you’ll need a strong performance from Wedgewood tonight to help secure an important two points against the Flames.
