Police are investigating a report of a potential gunman on the campus of Claremont McKenna College.
CLAREMONT, Calif. (KABC) — A shelter in place order has been lifted at Claremont McKenna College after a report of a possible shooter on the campus was determined to be a swatting call, officials said.
Claremont police received a call of an active shooter on campus around 5 p.m. Thursday, the department said in a statement.
An alert was also sent to the campus community, urging people to stay away from the area. Footage from AIR7 showed an armored vehicle and several police cruisers at the scene.
By 7:30 p.m., however, the campus announced the shelter in place had been lifted and that police determined there was “no active threat.”
Claremont police later said no weapon, victim or signs of an active shooter were found during its investigation.
“Extensive resources were used in response to the call for service, which was later determined to be a false report or ‘swatting call,'” police said.
The incident comes a day after a report of an armed individual at a Loma Linda hospital led to a massive law enforcement response, however, the situation was later determined to be a hoax.
