NHL 4 Nations Fight Fest: USA and Canada have 3 bouts in first 9 seconds

After the puck was dropped, the gloves followed almost immediately after.

The considerable emotion of the rivalry and perhaps the Star-Spangled Banner being booed before the game, boiled over immediately in the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off game between Team USA and Canada on Saturday at the Bell Centre.

Fans were treated to a full fight card with three fights in the games first nine seconds.

Matthew Tkachuk, who angrily said he “didn’t like it” when the anthem was booed after Thursday’s game, immediately squared off with Brandon Hagel.

Once those two were ushered to their respective penalty boxes, Brady Thachuk and Sam Bennett set up to take the faceoff and they too shed their gloves and squared off as soon as the puck was dropped. That created a battled between Matthew Tkachuk’s brother and Matthew Tkachuk’s Panther teammate.

For a moment it looked like that might be the end of it as there were six whole seconds of peace. But after J.T. Miller cross-checked Colton Parayko, fight No. 3 was on.
