Joao Fonseca will try to continue his Miami Masters run going when he faces Alex de Minaur during third-round action on Monday. Taylor Fritz and Denis Shapovalov are also aiming for a place in the last 16.
(10) Alex de Minaur vs. Joao Fonseca
Fonseca might as well be playing at home in Brazil for this Miami Open and it has helped him secure a spot in the round of 32. The 18-year-old has advanced so far with wins over Learner Tien (a dramatic three-setter) and Ugo Humbert amidst raucous and even borderline unruly atmospheres. Success is nothing new for Fonseca, who is an unbelievable 27-4 in his last 31 matches with four titles–two Challengers, the NextGen ATP Finals, and an ATP 250 in Buenos Aires.
Up next for the world No. 60 on Monday is a first-ever meeting with De Minaur. The 11th-ranked Aussie started the season hot but has since cooled off in a big way, with losses to Andrey Rublev (Doha quarterfinals), Marin Cilic (Dubai first round), and Francisco Cerundolo (Indian Wells fourth round). What do all of those guys have in common? Huge forehands that can bully a defensive De Minaur around the court. That, of course, is also Fonseca’s biggest weapon. The teenager will be able to dictate points in this matchup and with the way he is playing that could be enough to pick up another big win in front of the Brazilian fans.

(3) Taylor Fritz vs. (27) Denis Shapovalov
Fritz and Shapovalov will be squaring off for the 11th time in their careers on Monday. Shapovalov leads the head-to-head series 6-4 after prevailing 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(2) last month on the indoor hard courts of Dallas. They have faced each other seven times on outdoor hard courts, with Fritz holding a slight 4-3 advantage in those matches.Since winning four matches at the United Cup while leading the United States to victory, the 2025 campaign has been slow going for Fritz. The world No. 4 has not reached the semifinals of any event and can only hope that changes in Miami after beating Lorenzo Sonego on Saturday. Shapovalov, who outlasted Thiago Agustin Tirante in a third-set tiebreaker, is 12-5 this season with a title in Dallas and a semifinal showing in Acapulco. The 28th-ranked American is playing with confidence again on the heels of a few disappointing years, and good things usually happen when he is swinging freely.
