Mavericks vs Nets Preview and Injury Report: Voltron assembly begins

The Dallas Mavericks (37-38) host the Brooklyn Nets (24-51) at home on Monday night. A win would put the Mavericks back to .500 for the first time in three weeks. Dallas comes into this game with wins in four of their last five, including a win over these same Nets last week. Brooklyn beat the Wizards on Saturday, but prior to that, lost six straight. Let’s get to the keys things to know for this contest:

  • WHO: Dallas Mavericks vs Brooklyn Nets
  • WHAT: Another game against these Nets and a chance to go back to .500
  • WHERE: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas
  • WHEN: 7:30 pm CST
  • HOW: KFAA, MavsTV, and Playback with Kirk and David

As far as injuries go, day by day things improve for Dallas just so. Kyrie Irving, Olivier Maxence Prosper, and Dereck Lively are all out, though the latter is reportedly making real progress. Brandon Williams has been sent back to the G-League for this one and I couldn’t tell you how many games he has left with Dallas. Anthony Davis, Caleb Martin, and Daniel Gafford are all listed as available as of this writing. For the Nets, both Cam Johnson and Cam Thomas are out with injuries, as is De’Anthony Melton, and Noah Clowney.

The Nets aren’t very good. And even with the limitations Dallas has in terms of positional variety, at least this game they’ll be able to go big versus playing very small like they have been. Watch the Anthony Davis-Daniel Gafford high-low actions, which should be fun. Kai Jones should also make a heavy impact on this one. Basically, if Dallas wants to make the play in, they need to not play with their food and beat the Nets senseless.

As you can tell below, you can join me and some other Mavs Moneyball guys in a room on Playback (embedded below) during the game (though I may not be able to start it until halftime). Also, consider joining Josh and I on Pod Maverick live after the game on YouTube, we should start after the game. Thanks so much for spending time with us here at Mavs Moneyball. Let’s go Mavs!
