Masters 2025: Rory McIlroy’s caddie delivers classic line after incredible shot through the trees on No. 7

Rory McIlroy pulled off one of the most incredible—and crazy—recovery shots in Masters history on Sunday. Turns out, it wouldn’t have happened if it was up to his caddie.

After pulling his tee shot on the par-4 seventh hole, McIlroy attempted a daring approach through the pines on the left side from 154 yards out. And despite his golf ball not getting through completely clean, it wound up eight feet from the hole, igniting a huge, surprised roar from the patrons.

First, have a look at this incredible shot that could wind up leading to McIlroy’s first green jacket to complete the career Grand Slam:

How about that? But as CBS watched multiple replays of the shot, analyst Trevor Immelman noticed a funny reaction from McIlroy’s caddie, Harry Diamond.

“Harry’s shaking his head,” Immelman said.

“Trevor,” CBS on-course reporter Dottie Pepper replied, “Harry just said to me, ‘It’s a good thing he doesn’t listen to me.'”

Classic. Guess Harry doesn’t have the veto power that Steve “Bones” MacKay had when he was caddying for Phil Mickelson all those years.

Anyway, Rory didn’t listen. And Rory did pull it off. And now golf fans have an (another) amazing highlight to enjoy.
