Avengers, reassemble!
Marvel is unveiling the star-studded cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” during an ongoing live stream event, with each star being revealed one at a time with a glimpse at the back of their chair.
The stream was simply titled “ANNOUNCEMENT,” but each new name was shared on the “Avengers” X account with the “Avengers: Doomsday” logo and a message that the film is now in production, implying the stars make up the cast.
USA TODAY has reached out to Disney and Marvel for more information.
Among the highlights so far: Chris Hemsworth will be back as Thor, Simu Liu will return as Shang-Chi and Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn will play the “Fantastic Four” characters Sue Storm, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm. Their “Fantastic Four” co-star Pedro Pascal would presumably be joining them, though his name has not yet appeared on the stream.

The cast list also included Tenoch Huerta Mejía
, who starred as Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and Kelsey Grammer. Grammer will likely return as Beast from the “X-Men” franchise after reprising the role during a surprise cameo in the credits scene of “The Marvels” in 2023.
According to the stream, “Avengers: Doomsday” will also star Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov and Lewis Pullman as Bob from “Thunderbolts.”
It’s unclear which of these characters will be official members of the Avengers, as the team had not yet been reformed by the end of Marvel’s latest film “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Marvel’s live stream is still ongoing and may last several more hours, given the large cast that typically makes up an “Avengers” movie. Despite consisting of nothing but a shot of a row of chairs, the stream drew millions of concurrent viewers online and an active YouTube chat where fans attempted to guess which name would be revealed next.
Robert Downey Jr. was previously announced to return for “Avengers: Doomsday,” though in a surprise twist, he’s playing the villain Doctor Doom. It’s unclear whether Downey’s Doom will have any connection to his previous Marvel character of Tony Stark, who died in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”

“Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo are returning to direct “Doomsday,” which will be followed one year later by “Avengers: Secret Wars,” also directed by the Russos. In an interview with Omelete, the duo teased that while “Endgame” represented an ending for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the next two “Avengers” films will accomplish the opposite.

“What’s compelling about these two new ‘Avengers’ movies is they’re a beginning,” Joe Russo said. “It’s a new beginning. So we told an ending story, now we’re going to tell a beginning story.”
