Last week, Washington faced a defensive unit with a similar statistical and blitz plan profile as Detroit. That’s why wide receiver Dyami Brown might deliver another breakout showing.
Brown, who had been underwhelming for much of his career, became a hero against the Buccaneers. He caught five passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Washington didn’t feed the 2021 third-round pick over the top but got the ball to the speed threat underneath and let his legs do the rest. That might be on the table again.
Though Detroit has better individual talent in the secondary than Tampa Bay, the Lions’ defensive approach led to the fourth-most receptions of 20 or more yards allowed. The rub for Brown throughout his career is stringing good performances together. He has been targeted more recently; 23 of his 40 targets came in his last five games.
Wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, the initial statistical beneficiary of Noah Brown’s season-ending kidney injury, should also have opportunities with Detroit focusing significant attention on Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin. Washington’s best bet for winning is grinding on offense and controlling the clock, but it will need chunk plays to keep up with the league’s highest-scoring team.
