Large hail, tornadoes possible amid severe storms expected Sunday night in central Ohio

The first big thunderstorm of 2025 may hit Greater Columbus soon.

The National Weather Service expects showers and thunderstorms to hit Sunday evening into Sunday night. It is likely that some of these storms will be strong or severe. Damaging winds will be the main threat from these storms, but large hail and tornadoes will also be possible, according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the weather service.

The grey weather outlook extends through the week, with strong storms also possible on Wednesday and rain showers predicted for Thursday and Friday. The repeated heavy rainfall may cause flooding, according to the weather service.

The hazardous weather outlook encompasses central Ohio, south central Ohio, southwest Ohio and west central Ohio.

Columbus weather for March 30-April 4, 2025

  • Sunday: There will be showers, mainly before 1 p.m. The high will be near 71. The chance of precipitation is 90%. Between a quarter and a half inch of precipitation is expected.
  • Sunday night: Showers and thunderstorms are expected, mainly before 2 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. The low will be around 54. South wind is predicted at around 14 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 90%. Between a quarter and half an inch of rainfall is expected.
  • Monday: Cloudy, with the temperature falling to around 50 by 5 p.m. Northwest wind at around 10 miles per hour is expected.
  • Monday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36 and north winds at 10 miles per hour predicted.
  • Tuesday: It will be mostly sunny with a high near 54.
  • Tuesday night: It will be mostly cloudy with a low around 43.
  • Wednesday: Showers are expected and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 p.m. Then showers are likely to continue with a high near 76. The chance of precipitation is 80%.
  • Wednesday night: Showers are likely before 8 p.m., then showers could turn into thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Then showers expected after 2 a.m. The low will be around 63. There is a 100% chance of rain.
  • Thursday: Showers are likely, mainly after 2 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 72. The chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Thursday night: Showers are expected. It will be mostly cloudy with a low around 51. The chance of precipitation is 80%.
  • Friday: There is a chance of showers. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 65. The chance of precipitation is 50%
