The Los Angeles Kings and the Colorado Avalanche have been two of the hottest teams in hockey. Both have been in the Top 5 of the NHL standings since the beginning of March, so this one is going to be an intense battle.

It’s tough to pick a side between these two, but my Kings vs. Avalanche predictions and NHL picks for Thursday, March 27 believe the total is way too low for two teams that can put the puck in the back of the net with regularity.

Kings vs Avalanche prediction

My best bet: Over 5.5 (-118 at BetMGM)

My analysis

Since the beginning of March, the Los Angeles Kings and the Colorado Avalanche have been two of the highest-scoring teams in the NHL. Colorado is averaging a league-best 4.09 goals per game with a power play that’s clicking at 41.4%, which is insane.

The wildest thing about this is that Los Angeles has also put up some great offensive numbers, but compared to what the Avalanche are doing it doesn’t seem as impressive. The Kings are scoring 3.15 goals per game in the month of March, and their man advantage is at 25.9%.

The Kings have plenty of guys throughout their lineup that are producing right now, but Quinton Byfield has been money with eight goals in his last 13 games, while Kevin Fiala, Anze Kopitar, and Adrian Kempe have also been producing at will. Fiala has 12 points in his last 13 games, Kopitar has tallied 11 points in the same span, while Kempe has nine points of his own.

For the Avalanche, it’s no surprise which players have been leading the way offensively for them. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar continue to be two of the best players in the world. MacKinnon is still leading the NHL in points, but has also put up 16 in his last 11 games, while Makar isn’t too far back with 15 points of his own in that same span.

Valerni Nichushkin has also produced at above a point per game, while the Avs have also gotten key contributions from Jonathan Drouin and Martin Necas.

Both teams have strong goaltending. In fact, Darcy Kuemper has probably been the hottest goalie in the league as of late (7-2-1, .937 SV%, 1.39 GAA in March), but tonight he has to face a wagon of an Avalanche forward group.

Kings vs Avalanche same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 5.5Cale Makar 1+ points

Adrian Kempe 1+ points

Makar has been on absolute fire lately with seven points in his last five games, and even though he is a defenseman, it can be argued that the Avalanche’s offense runs through him. To that point, he does quarterback the power play, which literally does run through him, and the Avalanche have tallied on the man-advantage in five straight games.

Kempe has had such a strong season for the Kings, but he was held off the score sheet in the teams most recent game. Kempe has points in four of his last six contests, and if the Kings are going to keep this game close, they need him to take charge.
