SAN ANTONIO – Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga left Sunday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center with 6:59 to play in the first half after falling awkwardly after driving to the basket.

He was ruled out with right ankle soreness.

Kuminga missed 31 games – from Jan. 5 to March 10 – with a severe right ankle sprain sustained Jan. 4 against the Memphis Grizzlies after mislanding while contesting a shot. As Golden State’s most explosive player, the fourth-year forward returned March 13 against the Sacramento Kings.

In eight games he’s since completed healthily, he averaged 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 43.7%, including 15.8% from 3-point range. In 40 games this season, mostly as a reserve, he’s averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists, shooting 45.5% and 31.9% from 3-point range.

Against the Spurs, Kuminga attacked – bending around a ball screen from Curry before leaping through contact and landing first on his ankle before his butt hit the court. He took a minute to gather himself before walking gingerly through tunnel adjacent to Golden State’s bench with director of medical services Drew Yoder.
