SAN FRANCISCO — The 2025 NBA Dunk Contest has Ja Morant considering a change.
After the Memphis Grizzlies point guard watched Mac McClung of the G League’s Oscala Magic win his third consecutive NBA Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday at the Chase Arena, he shared a message on social media.
“mac might make me decide to dunk,” Morant posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Morant has long been viewed as one of the NBA’s best dunkers, but he has gradually went away from showing off those skills. Morant routinely shuts down the idea of ever participating in the dunk contest.
Earlier this season, Morant declared that he wouldn’t be dunking in games anymore. Outside of the rare instance where he has to use his high-flying athleticism to complete a finish, he’s lived up to that word.

If Morant joins the dunk contest, he wants to bring two former participants with him. Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon arguably put together the best dunk contest battle fans have ever seen. Morant wants to bring them out of retirement.
“zach & AG wassup,” Morant posted on X.
Morant’s participation in the dunk contest would have fans hyped, but it wouldn’t be an easy task if McClung participates. McClung scored perfect scores of 50 on all four of his dunks.
