Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is expected to play on a line with Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett for Team Canada’s Feb. 15 contest against Team USA. This is undoubtedly notable, as Bennett memorably injured Marchand during last year’s playoff with a sucker punch to the head.

When asked about playing with Bennett, Marchand had some kind words to say about the Panthers star’s play.
“He obviously plays very hard. Very skilled, great patience, and he just plays the game full 200 feet,” Marchand said. “Great asset to the team. Really look forward to playing with him. I like the way we practiced together. Obviously, he’s a competitor. I’ve seen it firsthand [Marchand chuckled]. He comes up big in those moments, so looking forward to getting out there.”
Marchand then shared that he and Bennett have talked about last spring’s incident, and that he holds no grudge about it.

“Yeah, we talked about it,” Marchand said and laughed. “We didn’t really get into it. I just more said, ‘I’m not passing him the puck.’ But, no, we were just joking around. Stuff happens out there, and whatever happens out there during the season, you let it go. We’re all here for the same reason and to fight for the same goal. So, those are things we can laugh about.”
Clearly, Marchand has moved on from the past hit with Bennett, especially with him being able to joke about it. It will now be fun to see these two playoff foes team up together on the same line for Team Canada.
