Defending champion and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler looks to win his third Green Jacket, with a cavalcade of golf’s best aiming to dethrone him.
In last year’s tournament, Scheffler quickly shot out of the gates, carding a first-round 66 to set the tone. After a solid but unspectacular second (72) and third round (71), Scheffler dialed in to shoot a final round 68 to card the winning score of 11-under, four shots clear of Ludvig Aberg (currently fifth in the world rankings).
Scheffler’s second Masters win put him in heady company, with Byron Nelson, Jimmy Demaret, Ben Hogan, and Ben Crenshaw as fellow Texans who have won the tournament more than once.
If there’s a player that stands out as co-favorite with Scheffler, it’s World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who already has two wins this year, but has not won this tournament, despite 16 starts and 13 made cuts.
McIlroy finished second back in 2022, when Scheffler won his first Masters. Rory shot a blistering 64 on the final day to shoot up the leaderboard to 7-under, three shots shy of Scheffler.
Scheffler will tee off at 10:15 am alongside Justin Thomas and Jose Luis Ballester, with McIlroy pairing up with Aberg and Akshay Bhatia at 1:12 pm.
