A social media exchange gone wrong has resulted in some unplanned time off for a Chicago sports radio host, according to multiple media reports.
Dan Bernstein, midday host at Audacy’s “670 The Score” WSCR Chicago “has the week off” after the ill-advised exchange. It all began last week when Bernstein posted a picture of himself with a fish that was followed by an online critic accusing Bernstein of killing it. Bernstein responded by saying the northern pike was “released successfully,” but things escalated from there.
After the online critic accused Bernstein of lying, the radio host wanted to settle the issue with hands. “I never respond to trolls,” Bernstein said, responding to a troll, “but questioning my sportsmanship and conservation awareness sets me off. Wanna fight? I’m a bad enemy, [expletive].”
Bernstein, who claimed to know where the person worked (and had previously worked), also asked his critic if he wanted his address and telephone number released to the public — claiming to have both. In addition, he posted, “Want your kids involved?”
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Bernstein’s posts have been deleted but screenshots have been preserved.
Bernstein’s co-host, Marshall Harris, kicked off Monday’s show by announcing that Bernstein was off for the week. Harris said nothing about Bernstein’s social media misadventure.
Camp One Step by Children’s Oncology Services — a charity that Bernstein is associated with — said Sunday that Bernstein had been “removed” from its board of directors for “comments on social media that don’t reflect our mission.”
On Monday’s show, Harris hosted the program with Leila Rahimi, another personality at the station.
Audacy, which owns “670 The Score,” did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
