Fresh off a loss to the Trail Blazers at home, the Hawks travel west to face the Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Wednesday night. Atlanta has had a rough week, while Dallas is beginning to round into form thanks to the return of several key players.
My Hawks vs. Mavericks predictions and NBA picks for April 2 expect the Mavs to deliver a win at home and cover the spread.

My best bet: Mavericks -4.5 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
At one point in the not-too-distant past, the Dallas Mavericks were in a position to potentially forfeit games due to mounting injuries. The team is finally starting to get heathy (a relative term in Dallas), and “Nico’s Curse” may finally be lifted.
Anthony Davis has appeared in four of the Mavs’ last five games, including three straight. He’s been limited to 28.5 minutes per game and only logged 30 minutes once, but his presence has been felt on both ends of the court. Dallas is 3-1 straight up over the last four with Davis in the lineup.
Davis’ return isn’t the only notable frontcourt injury update. Daniel Gafford returned from a 21-game absence on Monday and delivered a 17/7/2 line in just 19 minutes. Dereck Lively II went through a full practice Tuesday and has a chance to return for the first time since January 14. PJ Washington has been available and leads the team in scoring over the last two weeks.
The Mavericks have a clear size and talent advantage in the frontcourt with Davis, Gafford and Washington. The Atlanta Hawks have gotten some excellent play from Onyeka Okongwu, but the frontcourt is thin due to the absences of Clint Capela and Jalen Johnson. Dallas can take advantage of mismatches here.
The Hawks have covered in five of their last seven, but the team is just 1-3 straight-up across its last four. Meanwhile, Dallas has won and covered in four of its last six. The Mavs have covered in four straight and won three straight against the Hawks head-to-head.
Somehow, the Mavericks sit as the No. 9 seed in the West, and the team is very much alive to earn a spot in the Play-In Tournament. Dallas stayed above water during a tumultuous five weeks post Luka trade, and now that they’re finally healthy, I like them to win and cover against a Hawks team that is nearly assured to land in the Play-In Tournament in the East and has little to play for tonight.
Dallas is motivated and ready to win. I’ll take the Mavs and lay the points.

Spencer Dinwiddie 7+ assists
The Hawks have gone Over in seven of their last eight, and the Mavs have done so in eight of their last 10. The teams have hit the Over in four of the last five head-to-head matchups, and I expect that to happen again tonight.
The Hawks have struggled on defense this season but Atlanta can score, and they like to push the tempo. This will be a pace-up spot for a Mavs team that’s starting to put it together on offense.
Spencer Dinwiddie has averaged a robust 8.7 assists across his last seven games since joining the starting five. He’s dished at least seven in six of those. Dinwiddie’s assists line is set at 8.5 for even money, and while that’s tempting, I prefer this alt line for a little safety in our three-leg parlay.
Dallas has gotten some key production from a number of different players as of late, as nine players have averaged double-digit points over the last two weeks. Dinwiddie ranks fifth in assists per game over the last seven games, and he’s got a plethora of options to facilitate tonight.
