‘Happy Gilmore 2’ sees return of beloved ‘Waterboy’ character

Get ready for even more nipple-pinching memes of actor Blake Clark, who played the pierced Farmer Fran in 1998’s The Waterboy, and appears in a similar state in the new teaser trailer for the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2.

Though it’s not clear if he is indeed reviving his Farmer Fran character, the bare-chested actor can be seen striking his signature arousing pose about 46 seconds in during new footage from the sequel to Adam Sandler‘s 1996 movie Happy Gilmore, which was dropped by Netflix on Tuesday.

Watch the teaser below.

Clark is a regular in Sandler flicks, appearing in the former Saturday Night Live star’s movies such as 50 First Dates, Grown Ups, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and Mr. Deeds. Although he did not appear in the original Happy Gilmore, several of that movie’s stars are back for more. Julie Bowen is reprising her role as Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald is back as Happy’s rival, Shooter McGavin. Both can be spotted in the new teaser. With Virginia waving at the golf pro from the sidelines, and Shooter popping up a little later. Ben Stiller, who was in the first film, also makes a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance too.

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, is there, breaking a club across his knee. NFL star and Taylor Swift boyfriend Travis Kelce and an impressive list of pro golfers — Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris — are in the movie’s cast as well.

Happy Gilmore was about Sandler’s title character, a failed hockey player, taking up golf in order to win the money he needs for a family emergency. By the end of the film, he’d done it, clearing enough to pay back the back taxes that his grandmother owed the IRS.

The opening of the teaser shows that Gilmore, who still wears a Boston Bruins jersey, has continued to do big things on the course in the years since we’ve seen him. His bust is placed near those of golf greats Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus. It’s only his that he seems to have a problem with. “Spongebob?” he asks when he sees it. “What is that? What’s with the beaver teeth?”

He also says, though, “I haven’t swung a club in years. I don’t know where to start.” Why the lapse?

In a romantic moment, Virginia tells him, “You’re not done with golf. I can see the Happy I fell in love with.”

Happy Gilmore 2 premieres July 25 on Netflix.
