Halle Berry Returns to Met Gala After 8-Year Absence With Most Risqué Look Yet

Watch: Met Gala 2025: Why Jennifer Garner, Zayn Malik & More Are Not Attending

Halle Berry is taking the 2025 Met Gala by storm.

The X-Men star made her return to the annual fashion event May 5 after an eight-year absence, arriving at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in a risqué sparkly gown that featured sheer cutouts from her waist all the way to her knees.

To complete her look, designed by LaQuan Smith, Halle, 58, opted for a statement diamond necklace from Cartier and wore a Jennifer Behr headpiece that coordinated with her dress. (See more celebrities at the Met Gala here.)

Of course, this year’s theme—dubbed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”—shines a light on the evolution of Black men’s style, taking inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The gala also included a “Tailored For You” dress code, which was “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” according to the museum.

Halle previously attended the fundraiser in 2017, which also marked her Met Gala debut. And the Oscar winner certainly made her first appearance a memorable one as she shimmered in a sparkling sheer Atelier Versace jumpsuit accented by a dramatic black and gold statement train.

While Halle—who shares daughter Nahla, 17, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry and son Maceo-Robert, 11, with ex-husband Olivier Martinez—is known to make bold fashion choices, she has been vocal about her desire to be known for more than just her looks.

“It might feel good to have everybody look at you,” she told Marie Claire in September, “but it’s always been a hollow win for me because I had nothing to do with how I came here looking.”

Indeed, the actress admitted it’s one of the reasons she embraces the aging process.

“I’ve always known that I’ve been more than this face and more than this body,” she explained. “So when that starts to go, maybe for the first time in my life, people will focus on the other aspects of me that I think are way more interesting.”
