Guardians reunite with former prospect in trade

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The Cleveland Guardians have officially acquired outfielder Nolan Jones in a trade with the Colorado Rockies.

In exchange, Colorado receives utility man Tyler Freeman.

Jones returns to the Cleveland organization after spending the last two seasons in Colorado. He made his Major League debut with the Guardians in 2022 but was traded to the Rockies following that season in exchange for prospect Juan Brito.

The 26-year-old finished fourth in the 2023 National League Rookie of the Year voting after becoming the first rookie in Major League history to have at least 20 home runs, 20 stolen bases and 19 outfield assists in a season.

His 2024 campaign was limited to 79 games due to lower back issues that forced him onto the 10-day Injured List twice during the season.

Jones was Cleveland’s second round pick (55th overall selection) in the 2016 MLB Draft after a standout prep career at Holy Ghost Prep High School.

After debuting with Cleveland in 2022, he was traded to the Rockies in November 2022 for INF Juan Brito.
