MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The defending NBA champions are coming to the FedEx Forum monday night for a rematch vs the Grizzlies.
Memphis was victorious in their previous meeting this season, defeating Boston 127-121 on December 7.
After Saturday night’s loss, Memphis sits at fifth place in the conference standings with just 8 games remaining.
Being stuck in the middle is not ideal, as while the Grizzlies could make a run and reach the 2 seed, they are also just 2 losses from being the 8 seed.
Having lost 5 of their last 6, Memphis is picking the wrong time to slip just weeks away from the playoffs.
While the new interim head coach, Tuomas Iisalo, is getting adjusted to his new position, the Grizzlies would prefer to be a home team for the postseason.
With a mediocre 19-18 road record, Memphis would prefer to start the playoffs at home, where they are 25-12.
Boston enters Monday’s contest on an 8-game winning streak and has already clinched their playoff spot.
With Golden State coming Tuesday and a 3-game road trip to follow, Memphis will need to get on a winning streak to secure a comfortable playoff seed.
Tomorrow’s game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. on TNT.
