Day three of the NFL Draft draws little interest from many casual fans. However, plenty of dynamic things happen on this last day, especially in the form of trades. Former North Carolina starting quarterback Sam Howell is on the move once again as he has been traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Minnesota Vikings.
Howell was traded from Seattle with the No. 172 so that the Seahawks could move up to the No. 142 pick from Minnesota. The trade stems presumably from the front office drafting former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe on day two of the NFL Draft.

Howell was a fifth-round pick by the Washington Commanders in 2022 and started 17 games in his sophomore season with the team. He threw for 3,946 yards and 21 touchdowns with 21 interceptions in that opportunity.
He made his way to Seattle after being traded for a third and fifth-round pick. He was in line to be the backup for former Minnesota QB Sam Darnold as the Seahawks’ starting quarterback last season, Geno Smith, departed for the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason. However, his time in Oregon was short, as he is now on the move again. Presumably, he will be the backup to J.J. McCarthy, the former quarterback from Michigan.
Howell threw for 3,000+ yards in three separate seasons with the Tar Heels. He totaled 10,283 yards in Chapel Hill with 92 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He will go to a better situation for himself in Minnesota, where he can be the true backup for an already injury-prone quarterback.
