ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — American and North Carolina state flags will be flying at half-staff today, May 15, in North Carolina, as ordered by Gov. Josh Stein.
According to a news release, Stein has ordered flags to be at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on May 15 for National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Stein issued this statement about flying flags at half-staff:
Today, we honor the members of law enforcement who paid the ultimate price. Let us never forget their heroism and their service to our people and let us honor their legacy by doing everything in our power to keep people safe and support law enforcement officers.

Each year on May 15, National Peace Officers Memorial Day recognizes the men and women of law enforcement who lost their lives or were injured in the line of duty.
