‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ First Look: The Animatronic Creatures Have Broken Out Of The Pizza Parlor – CinemaCon

The bear from Five Nights At Freddy‘s wobbled onstage in full plastic regalia. But surprise! It was horror cinema architect Jason Blum at Universal‘s CinemaCon presentation Wednesday in Las Vegas.

“I love to save money,” said the producer known for thrifty genre budgets. “And on the first movie, I was in the suit the entire time.”

He then showed off the crowd how he loves to play dress-up with photos of him dressed as the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz (“The Wicked people backstage didn’t like it”), his get-up as M3GAN, and a family photo where they all dressed up as a night at the movies (Blum was dressed as a movie poster marquee, and his kids were dressed as candy concessions and Sprite).

Blum announced to great cheers from theater owners in the crowd that the sequel is coming out exclusively in theaters, not day-and-date with Peacock.

The clip to the sequel of Blumhouse’s biggest hit was quick: Images of how the animatronic animals out in the public — at a school, at a fair, with Matthew Lillard’s sinister voice-over:

Emma Tammi returns to direct Freddy’s 2 off a script she co-wrote with Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. Josh Hutcherson is back as Mike, the security guard who must babysit the zany, spooky and dumpy Chuck E. Cheese-like pizza parlor. Lillard, who we learned was the villain in the first pic, is back, as is Piper Rubio as Abby and Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa.

“They’re out there Mike,” Vanessa tells her beau.

The first movie opened during the actors strike, day-and-date on Peacock, and defied all challenges in the fall 2023 box office marketplace. The movie based on the hit video game was an anomaly, performing equally well in theaters and on Peacock since it was a hot, fan-frenzied franchise. It opened to an unprecedented $80 million and ending its domestic run at $137.2M, and just over $291M worldwide. Five Nights at Freddy‘s was Peacock‘s most-watched film or series ever in its first five days at the time (October 2023), besting previous record-holders Halloween EndsThe Super Mario Bros MovieBel-Air and The Best Man: The Final Chapters. (Wicked now holds the Peacock debut viewership record).

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 opens on December 5.
