Firefighters respond to brush fire in Castaic area

Firefighters responded to a brush fire Wednesday north of Los Angeles on a day of red flag warnings for parts of Southern California.

The fire in thick dry brush was reported at about 10:30 a.m. off the northbound 5 Freeway at Lake Hughes Road. Thick smoke was visible from the freeway and miles around in northern Los Angeles County.

There was no immediate threat to structures.

Winds were expected to pick up in the area in the afternoon and evening. Gusts Wednesday morning were at 10 mph to 20 mph.
