The New York Police Department confirmed news the crash on social media just after 3:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, April 10.

The crash took place around 3:17 p.m., shortly after the helicopter took off from downtown N.Y.C. just before 3:00 p.m., N.Y.C. Mayor Eric Adams said during the press conference.

The helicopter went down on the New Jersey side of the water, with many agencies, including the FDNY and NYPD assisting. The Hoboken Fire Department confirmed the crash took place in Jersey City.

Officials confirmed all six people on board — three adults, including the pilot, and three children — have died. Adams said that based on preliminary information, the family was visiting from Spain.

The Coast Guard, one of many agencies responding, say they have stopped traffic in the area and established a safety zone.
