Clippers acquire Bogdan Bogdanović from Hawks: Source

The Atlanta Hawks have traded guard Bogdan Bogdanović to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Terance Mann, Bones Hyland and three second-round picks, a team source has confirmed to The Athletic.

The trade was first reported by ESPN.

Bogdanović, 32, is coming off an Olympic bronze for Serbia this past summer in Paris, where he averaged 18 points per game (he also notched a silver in the 2016 Games). His contract is worth $17.2 million, with a team option in the 2026-27 season.

He is currently averaging 10 points and 2.8 rebounds in 24 games in his fifth season with Atlanta so far this year. Bogdanović missed part of October and November with a hamstring injury that he’s continuing to manage.

The guard is hitting only 30.1 percent of his 3-point attempts so far this season but has a 38 percent career average.

Bogdanović played internationally in Serbia and Turkey before joining the NBA, spending three seasons with the Sacramento Kings before joining the Hawks in 2020. He’s made three playoff appearances with Atlanta in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Making sense of the deal

Not Bogie! The Atlantan in me aches, but this is a change of scenery for two struggling players in Bogdanovic and Mann. Bogdanovic has struggled mightily all season after arguably deserving the Sixth Man award in 2023-24, while Mann’s play after signing a three-year, $46.5 million extension with the Clippers has been similarly disappointing.

That said, Bogdanovic’s shooting and off-ball gravity are potentially a lot more useful with the Clippers than it as a sixth man in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Mann adds another wing athlete in Atlanta’s rotation, something they could really use with all the non-Dyson Daniels options basically getting cooked on a nightly basis. Hyland is also likely to get a chance at backup point guard, a position that has been killing the Hawks all season.

For the Hawks to give up three seconds is not great, and they’ll be counting on Mann to deliver more value to justify this deal. Our Law Murray reports the Hawks gave up a 2025 Minnesota second, a 2027 Clippers second, and a 2026 Memphis second that is reverse protected, such that it only conveys if it lands in spots 31-42. — John Hollinger, senior NBA writer
