Chris Brown will be celebrating the 20-year anniversary of his self-titled debut album Chris Brown this November, and seemingly, Breezy will be celebrating with Team Breezy in a major way.
On Tuesday (March 25), CB took to his Instagram Stories with a cryptic message, fueling speculation about a possible tour or a symbolic nod to his decades-long career. “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT THURSDAY,” he wrote, signing off with “XX.”
Fans immediately began speculating about the meaning behind “XX,” with most recognizing it as the Roman numeral for 20. Naturally, many believe Breezy is hinting at the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough, marked by his 3x-Platinum debut that launched him into global superstardom.
“It Better Be The Tour Dates Or New Album,” one fan commented as another typed, “20yrs in the game.” A third joked, “Chris knows how to pick our brain,” as a fourth person broke it down: “Unless his next album is X2 ?? Similar to his X album which was 10th album and XX would be 20 so that means 20 years in the music bizz.”
While concluding his 11:11 tour last year, which reportedly grossed over $80,000,000 in revenue, Brown hinted at his fans seeing him again on stage “next year.”
During the last stop of his tour in Los Angeles, Brown ended his show by telling fans “see you next year.”
With his two daughters and dancers beside him, the “Gimme That” crooner gave his final bow and thanked all of his supporters for their love. At the time, it was also speculated that he’d be commemorating the 20th anniversary of his debut.
Upon Chris Brown’s debut album’s release, it launched at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and claimed the No. 1 spot on the U.S. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, where it held strong for an impressive 104 weeks following its 2005 release.
Widely regarded as one of R&B’s best debuts, the project featured musical assistance from Bow Wow, Lil Wayne, and Juelz Santana, with standout singles including “Run it!” “Yo (Excuse Me Miss),” “Poppin,” “Say Goodbye,” “Young Love,” and the “Gimme That” remix.
The album’s lead single “Run It!” dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks and remained on the chart for a total of 38 weeks. The LP sold 154,000 copies in its first week and earned Breezy his first two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Contemporary R&B Album.
