WASHINGTON (7News) — The Washington Capitals are back in the second round of the NHL Playoffs after a series-clinching 4-1 over the Montreal Canadiens.
Captain Alex Ovechkin scored in the first period on a Capitals power play to give Washington the lead. Ovechkin’s shot coming directly off a face-off win, as his slapshot beat Jakub Dobes.
Nearly, two minutes later, Washington again in the offensive zone and Pierre Luc Dubois finds Jakub Chychrun with a beautiful pass and Chychrun scores, giving the Capitals a 2-0 lead.
In the second period, Capitals again on the power play, this time Washington crashing the net, when the puck finds the stick of Tom Wilson, who scores his second goal in as many games.
Washington advances to the second round for the first time since they won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
The Capitals will face the Carolina Hurricanes who won their series against the New Jersey Devils.
