The chase for the NCAA Division II championship continues for the CSU Dominguez men’s and women’s basketball teams.
In Pittsburgh, the women kicked off their Elite Eight action Monday with an 82-66 win over Coker. Teagan Thurman led the Toros with 23 points, Cristina Jones had 20 and 10 rebounds and Nala Williams scored 19 and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Toros will face seventh-seeded Union (Tennessee) in Wednesday’s semifinal at 3 p.m. The other semifinal will feature fourth-seed Pittsburgh St. against top-seed Grand Valley St. The winners of the semifinals will meet Friday in the national championship.
In Indiana, the CSUDH men defeated West Liberty 86-84 Tuesday. David Cheatom led the way with 22 points, Jeremy Dent-Smith had 19 and seven rebounds. Adam Afifi had 12 points, DJ Guest scored 11 points and Jordan Hilstock had 10. Alex Garcia scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Toros trailed 60-48 with 16:15 remaining. Garcia scored with 24 seconds remaining to give the Toros an 86-82 lead.
The Toros will face third-seed Dallas Baptist in Thursday’s semifinal.
