A consortium that includes STG Partners co-founder Bill Chisholm reached a deal to buy the National Basketball Association’s Boston Celtics for $6.1 billion, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The agreement could be announced as soon as Thursday, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing information that isn’t public. Sixth Street committed more than $1 billion to the deal, some of the people said. Bloomberg News reported Chisholm’s consortium had emerged as the front-runner earlier Thursday.
