Dylan Larkin Anytime Goalscorer: +150 Sports Interaction
Wednesday’s matchup is an absolute must-win for the Detroit Red Wings, who will be looking to snap a six-game losing skid when they host the Buffalo Sabres. The Red Wings still have a chance of snapping their eight-year playoff drought this season, but it’s pretty tough to imagine they can pull it off if they can’t find a way to win this favorable matchup.
While this season will likely end as another disappointing one for his side, nobody is questioning Larkin’s commitment to winning, or his leadership as captain of the team. He’s looked desperate to turn things around over the last stretch of play, entering this matchup with goals in three straight games.
While there are plenty of flaws among the rest of Detroit’s roster, Larkin and linemate Lucas Raymond’s play on the top line certainly has not been the issue.
Over the last 12 games, Larkin has averaged 0.51 expected goals per game, and averaged 5.91 shot attempts per game. In each of the last four seasons, he has scored on higher than 13% of shots on goal. If he continues to generate scoring chances at the rate we have seen lately, +150 should prove to be a good price to back him scoring a goal.
The Sabres have allowed 4.10 goals against per game across their last 10 contests, and 3.48 goals against per game this season. They hold the league’s sixth-worst xGA/60 this season, and continue to receive below average goaltending from Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
It seems likely that Larkin and Raymond will find a way to impact this game offensively, and I wouldn’t be opposed to backing any props involving the dynamic duo to have a strong performance. At a price of +150, backing Larkin to score is my preferred option.
Nick Schmaltz Over 2.5 shots on goal: +125 Sports Interaction
With Logan Cooley back in the lineup, the Utah Hockey Club is once again offering one of the league’s top lines. Cooley, Clayton Keller, and Schmaltz have outscored opponents 15-6 at even strength this season. Their 71.4% actual goal share is the fourth-best rate among any lines that have played over 200 minutes together.
It has been seven games since Cooley returned from injury, and in that span Schmaltz has put up four goals and seven points. Schmaltz has averaged three shots per game in that span, as well as 5.14 attempts per game. He has recorded over 2.5 shots on goal in four of the last seven matchups.
Utah’s top line gets an excellent matchup to continue its dominant play Wednesday, as it will host the Anaheim Ducks. While the Ducks have been finding some wins recently, nobody is mistaking them for a good defensive team, and those wins have mainly revolved around incredible goaltending.
Over the last 10 games, Anaheim has allowed 31.12 shots against per 60, which is right on par with its season- long average of 32.02 shots against per 60. The Ducks will also be playing back-to-back, after suffering a 7-4 loss to the Washington Capitals last night.
Given his shot volume since Cooley returned to the lineup, +125 looks to be a great price for Schmaltz to record over 2.5 shots in an ideal matchup.
