UPDATE 3/26: Florence Pugh’s name has now been added to the Avengers: Doomsday cast, meaning fans will see Yelena Belova return after Thunderbolts*.
The Avengers: Doomsday casting announcement seemingly spoils who survives in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*.
Thunderbolts* hits United States theaters this coming May. The MCU film sees Sebastian Stan reprise his role as Bucky Barnes alongside Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, and Hannah John-Kamen’s Ava Starr/Ghost.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the official Marvel Entertainment YouTube page started a livestream announcing the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. Watch the live video below.
Included in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday is Stan, meaning that Bucky Barnes will likely survive the events of Thunderbolts*. Russell’s name has also been revealed, meaning that John Walker will also live to fight another day.
Pugh, Harbour, and other members of the Thunderbolts* cast have not yet appeared in the livestream; however, according to Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Marvel has “nearly 50” names that will be announced in the video, meaning announcements of their involvement could still be forthcoming.
At the time of this article’s publication, the names that have been revealed in the Avengers: Doomsday video also include Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, and Letitia Wright.
“In Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”
Directed by Jake Schreier, the cast of Thunderbolts* also includes Lewis Pullman as Bob, Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Thunderbolts* will be released in United States theaters on May 2, 2025. Avengers: Doomsday arrives on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
