ATP Miami Quarterfinal Predictions Including Taylor Fritz vs Matteo Berrettini

The two remaining quarterfinal matches will be played on day 9 of the ATP Miami Open, and the fans can expect some fantastic tennis. Taylor Fritz, the biggest hope for local fans, is still going strong and will take on Matteo Berrettini, while Arthur Fils will face the teenager Jakub Mensik. As always, we at LWOT will offer our predictions for both these matches. But who will advance to the semifinals?

ATP Miami Quarterfinal Predictions

Jakub Mensik vs Arthur Fils

Head-to-Head: Mensik 0-1 Fils

Jakub Mensik benefitted from a walkover from his compatriot Tomas Machac and advanced to his first Miami Open quarterfinals. This is Mensik’s second Masters quarterfinal appearance, and he hopes to get to the semifinals for the first time. Mensik is well rested and will be the fresher player going into the match against Arthur Fils, who overcame the top seed, Alexander Zverev, against all odds.

Fils was trailing a set and was carrying a back issue, which eventually helped him as he started playing more aggressively and played the points on his terms. This makes it a back-to-back Masters quarterfinal for the Frenchman. Fils has the game to beat Mensik, but with his fitness in doubt, Mensik will be the favourite.

Prediction: Mensik in 2

Taylor Fritz vs Matteo Berrettini

Head-to-Head: Fritz 4-0 Berrettini

World No.4, Taylor Fritz, played another solid match and is into his second quarterfinal at the Miami Open. Fritz has been brilliant behind his serve so far, getting broken just once in three matches. The American No.1 has never advanced past the quarterfinals in this tournament and will be anxious to defeat Matteo Berrettini. The Italian player has never defeated Fritz in four meetings, which is a little surprising for a player of his calibre. Berrettini has also only won one set against Fritz.

Matchup-wise, both players have a big game with big serve and forehand, but what separates Fritz from Berrettini is the backhand and return. The American excels in both areas, and in a close match, it can be the determining factor. I expect Fritz to win again against Berrettini and advance to the semifinals.

Prediction: Fritz in 3
