It was a tense Easter Sunday for this season’s “American Idol” contestants, as host Ryan Seacrest slowly announced which 20 artists would advance in the competition.
Of the 24 “Idol” hopefuls who performed at Aulani, a Hawaiian Disney resort and spa, four were eliminated during Sunday night’s episode: Grayson Torrence, Kyana Fanene, Penny Samar, and MKY.
The results reflect the opinion of “Idol” viewers, who for the first time this season were able to vote for their favorite performers via text, the “American Idol” app, and the “American Idol” website.
Some of the eliminated contestants commented about their time on the show via Instagram, sharing gratitude for the experience, new friends, and supportive fans.
“I’m so grateful for all the friendships, lessons, and memories I will keep with me forever from this experience,” Penny Samar wrote. “This is just the beginning of the #pinkpennyclub.”
Grayson Torrence also shared her thoughts on Instagram, calling her participation “an unbelievable blessing” and a “crazy unexpected ride.”
“I wouldn’t be who I am today if I never did this, so thank you for everyone who pushed me to chase my dreams,” Torrence posted.
Kyana Fanene, who met some members of her family for the first time during the show’s round in Hawaii, called her time on “Idol” a “win-win situation” and teased “new things on the horizon.”
“Idol” fans will vote again this evening and tomorrow morning to determine which contestants will advance to the Top 14. Voting closes on Monday, April 21 at 9 a.m. Eastern time, and the results will be announced during Monday night’s episode.
