For the first time in season 23, “American Idol” viewers take control of the competition on April 13, 2025. As the first half of the Top 24 preps with celeb guest mentor Ashanti and performs at Hawaii’s Disney Aulani Resort, viewers will get to vote for their favorite contestants. The same thing will be true on April 14, as the second set of 12 gets mentored by Josh Groban before taking the stage.
The day before ABC began airing the Hawaii episodes, which were filmed in February, contestants began sharing voting details with their newfound fans, with hopes of drumming up enough support to push them through to the next round. Which four contestants will be sent home won’t be announced until the following week, when Ryan Seacrest reveals the Top 20.
As in recent years of the competition, “American Idol” fans have three ways to vote for favorite contestants, with the ability to cast 30 votes each night for their top performer — 10 votes per platform.
The first way to vote is through ABC’s website after creating a free account there (or with an existing MyDisney account). The second way is through the “American Idol” app, either via Apple or via Google for Androids. A free ABC account is also required on the app, and viewers can change their vote during the show as long as they hit “save” after any alterations.
Once each episode begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time, the site and the app will feature ways to cast votes for your favorite performers, up to 10 votes total on each platform. Voting ends the following morning at 6 a.m. Eastern time.
On both the website and the app, per ABC, voters “must be at least 16 years old and located in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands.”

The third way to vote is by texting a favorite contestant’s unique contestant number to 21523, up to 10 times for any one contestant. Text voting also closes at 6 a.m. Eastern time the morning after each episode.
